Resiliance Band Launch July 7th 2019 for the West Indian Parade, Brooklyn

 
 

Resiliance Mas will bring the energy of Dominica carnival to the West Indian parade this Labor Day. Costumes are on display now at the band’s camp located at 204 Parkside Avenue in Brooklyn.

On the late afternoon of September 18th 2017 after the winds of Hurricane Maria increased to a cat 5 storm with hurricane force winds that extended 30 miles from its center when it scored a direct hit on the island of Dominica. The DIY ethic and improvisational skills of Dominicans were challenged after Maria left the island dazed and isolated.

Resiliance Mas takes its name from the spirit of the people of Dominica facing adversity. Nearly two years after, signs of resiliency and rebirth are plentiful in Dominica but in some ways the island is changed forever.

The costumes are a contemporary twist on the patterns of found in traditional creole wear in Dominica. Curtis designed the Crazy Mess section logo it features Asa Banton one of the biggest stras of hard hitting Bouyon music.

The festivities get under way with One Calypso, August 17th at Rochdale Center 169-65 137th avenue in Jamaica, NY. The show presented by Stardom Tent and Solo Jams will include 10 Dominican artists including King Dice, Hunter, Tasha P, Daddy Chess of the Swinging Stars, Rabbit, de Intruder, Lady V, Shelly, Lugarz, Trendsetta, Irish Kid, and Webb.

The One Flag Black and Yellow fete will be held at 204 Parkside Avenue, August 31st, Labor Day saturday
